It can be found at the eastern end of the elongated dark cloud Barnard 168 and is part of an extended molecular cloud. IC 5146 is a reflection/emission nebula deep space object. It is not located in the Solar System. It lies at a distance of about 3,300.00 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus. It is also referred to as IC5146 which is short for Index Catalogue number 5146.
